Fat Quarter Projects - Easy Fabric Plant Pot Cover/Storage Box Sewing Tutorial


I've made these super easy plant pot covers using gorgeous Craft Cotton Co. fabric, designed by The Tiny Garden, but you don't have to use these just for plants! They could be great storage boxes for your sewing room, or choose a fun fabric for a kids bedroom, they would also make great gifts! 

I used 1 fat quarter pack (5 pieces) and a plain fabric for the middle

What you'll need for 1 cube:
5 x 6" squares of outer fabric and 5 x 6" squares of lining fabric
1 22" by 6" piece of fabric for the border
12" by 18" single sided fusible fleece - I used Bosal 
4 eyelet rings for handles (optional)
60" rope or cord for handles (optional)

Use 1/4” seam allowance 









1. cut out 5 x 6” squares of the outer fabric
Cut 5 x 6” squares of the lining fabric
Cut out border fabric 22” by 6”











2. iron the outer pieces to fusible fleece and cut out













3. sew 4 of the outer pieces right sides together to make a strip then sew the two ends right sides together to make a tube









4. sew in the base and turn right side out


















5. repeat steps 3&4 for the lining








6. for the boarder, sew the ends right sides together to form a tube







7. fold in half wrong sides together










8. place the lining inside the outer cube wrong sides together, then place the border inside the lining so all raw edges meet at the top


9. sew together with a 1/2 inch seam allowance
10. fold the broader over the top to desired length






optional - add eyelets to 2 sides of the cube using manufacturers instructions,
tie the rope or cord through the holes to create handles! Its so simple but I think it really finishes off the porject and makes them look shop bought.

    This is a lovely project! I loved the border and handles, I have just bought eyelets and will enjoy using them making these pots. Welcome to my Blog!

So this is the first time I'm writing a blog, which seems strange because everyone and their dog has a blog these days, but here we go...  I live in London with my boyfriend Gildas (Gilly) and our beautiful daughter Vienna-Rae. Busy Bee Sewing Room Set

If you’re just starting to sew or are an experienced sewer, this is a lovely and easy way to coordinate your sewing machine accessories and keep your machine clean when it isn’t in use. This is a tutorial on how to make the machine dust cover, matching sewing machine mat and biscornu pin cushion.
